AMG, the renowned performance tuning division of Mercedes-Benz, has a rich history rooted in grassroots motorsport. Founded by former Mercedes engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, AMG began its journey by modifying existing Mercedes vehicles and pushing them to their limits on race tracks. Their first professionally raced car under the iconic AMG moniker was the 300 SEL 6.8, affectionately known as "The Red Pig".
