The Roman Javelin 1.0

The Roman Javelin
This weapon, weighing between 700 and 1,200 grams, is believed to be of Samnite origin and was used by the Etruscans. It typically consisted of a flexible, quadrangular iron shaft one meter long. The hollow part of this shaft housed a wooden handle, also quadrangular, approximately 1.50 meters in length. This handle was firmly fixed to the iron shaft using two iron pegs. Later, this fixing method was improved, replacing the two iron pegs with one iron peg and another wooden one. This innovation is attributed to Marius. When a pilum hit a shield, it would break, freeing the pole which then hung down to the ground. The legionnaire could then step on the pole, forcing their enemy to lower their shield and expose themselves.
Even if the pilum missed its target, it was designed to break upon impact, preventing the Romans' enemies from retrieving it and throwing it back.
Please note that this mod does not include a map of Rome or a shield.
Only Pilum installation instructions can be found in the archive.
