T-80U series main battle tank is a main battle tank developed by the former Soviet Union. It's an evolution of the T-80, which has been in service since 1976 and earned the nickname "flying tank" (Russian:''Летающий Танк").
It holds the distinction of being the first production tank powered entirely by a gas turbine engine. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia and Ukraine, the original developers and producers of the T-80, continued its development, leading to new models like the T-80U (Russia) and T-84 (Ukraine). Besides Russia, Ukraine, and other former Soviet republics, Cyprus, Pakistan, and South Korea also operate T-80 tanks and various derivative models.
