是中華民國國軍的兩棲武裝部隊，負責兩棲作戰、登陸作戰、反登陸作戰、奪島作戰、臺灣本島、外島、離島守備、軍事設施防衛等任務，
並有海軍陸戰隊學校培養陸戰隊幹部，在戰爭時也有快速反應及戰力保存的功能。

ROCMC is considered an elite force within the ROC Armed Forces and is well-known for its "Road to Heaven" stage in its 10-week amphibious training program.

The ROC Marines trains with the USMC though these are generally classified, unofficial, or officially considers either side as "observers.
