Alternative Buzzards: In-Game Non-Combat Skins
This mod changes the paint for the in-game Buzzard helicopter. Please note that this will also change the paint for any buzzards that spawn naturally, not just ones you spawn with a trainer.
Available paint schemes include:
- US Army 1st Air Cav
- Afghanistan
- Argentina
- Chile
- Columbia
- Croatia
- Denmark
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- Finland
- Guinea
- Israel
- Italy
- Japan
- Jordan
- Kenya
- Lebanon
- Malaysia
- Malta
- Mexico
- Nicaragua
- Panama
- Philippines
- Saudi Arabia
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Spain
- Taiwan
- Thailand
- Turkey
To overwrite the default Buzzard paint, follow these file paths:
- ...\GTAV\mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday8ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\buzzard2.ytd
- ...\GTAV\mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday8ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\buzzard2+hi.ytd
If you want to keep the original Buzzard paint, extract the "buzzard2.ytd" file from OpenIV while in "Edit mode". Rename it to something like "orig_buzzard2.ytd" and save it in the same folder as the dlc.rpf.
To apply a new livery:
- Enter "Edit mode" in OpenIV.
- Select "buzzard.ytd".
- Right-click and choose "Replace".
- Select the desired "buzzard2.ytd" file from the extracted zip archive.
Open the new "buzzard2.ytd" in OpenIV, rename "buzzard2_livery" to something like "buzzard2_livery_orig", and then rename your chosen livery (e.g., "buzzard2_livery1stAirCav") to "buzzard2_livery".
To confirm the livery, open the "buzzard2+hi.yft" or "buzzard2.yft" file in OpenIV's Model Viewer.
Repeat this process for:
- ...\GTAV\mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday8ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\buzzard2+hi.ytd
Once complete, spawn a Buzzard using your preferred trainer.
If you encounter any issues, remember that you can always copy the original dlc file and overwrite the one in your mod folder. Keep in mind that some mods might overwrite vehicles, so using the original dlc file could remove other existing modifications.
A GIMP .XCF file containing the roundels and other design elements is included, allowing you to use this work as a starting point for your own customizations.
Enjoy!
