2019 Sprinter Fire Department Rapid Response Unit [ELS]

The Haaglanden Fire Department has various specializations. One of these is the Quick Response Team (QRT) specialization. This team has two tasks: they respond to violence incidents with potential multiple victims and a (suspicion of) terrorist attack, and incidents involving hazardous materials.

Incidents and attacks abroad have shown that it is important to prepare firefighters for their rescue tasks in such an event. Preparations have been made on several fronts. During the 2016 attack in Zaventem, Belgium, the fire department was deployed to evacuate and treat victims. Firefighters were there with their hands tied, they did not have the right equipment or training to provide adequate assistance. Lessons have been learned from these experiences and an attempt has been made to address them. The Haaglanden Fire Department's QRT works together with the police and other emergency services.
